Buckow is one step closer to becoming a “Brecht-Stadt.” On June 18, the town council voted 5–3 in favor of changing the town’s name, with two members abstaining. Supporters hope the association with Bertolt Brecht and Helene Weigel will attract more cultural tourism, particularly during the quieter winter months. The change must still be approved by Brandenburg’s Ministry of the Interior and Municipal Affairs.
